Tsundoku Magazine Design
Tsundoku is a quarterly published magazine for readers and writers of Young Adult Literature and other related media. My goal was to create a design appealing to a specific audience and explore all the different roles of designing and producing a magazine. The project began with research, while art direction remained a focus throughout the 10 week long project. I started with a collection of articles about authors, upcoming movies, interviews, previews, book lists, and other content to interest YA readers. The magazine is small, but full of content. My intention was for it to have the physicality of a novel. Tsundoku is a Japanese word to describe buying so many books that sit in piles around your house before you have a chance to read them all. Reading was instrumental to my growth as a young adult, and many YA books have a lot of appeal to more mature audiences as well. Tsundoku celebrates the role stories have in young lives, and how they help young people find their voice as well.
